Good morning, Mets fans!

On Friday night, the Mets lost in heartbreaking fashion after a 14 inning 2-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Jacob deGrom had yet another historic “do-it-yourself” outing, striking out 13 batters and allowing only one run in seven innings pitched, while also scoring, what proved to be, the Mets only run of the night on a home run over the left-center field fence.

DeGrom is now the first pitcher in major league baseball history to strike out 13+ batters and hit a home run twice in the same season: April 3 and August 23. In Friday night’s outing, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner has lowered his ERA to 2.56 for the 2019 season, while current front runner for 2019 NL Cy Young, Hyun-Jin Ryu, gave up seven earned run through 4.1IP against the Yankees.

Zack Wheeler, “Wheels” (9-7, 4.40), will face off against Max Fried, “Maximus” (14-4, 3.83) in the second game of this three-game series on Saturday. Wheeler threw five innings of four-run baseball (three earned) in his last outing against the Kansas City Royals in a Mets 11-5 win August 18, while Fried had a similar line in his last start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on that same date.

The game will be televised on PIX11 and broadcasted via radio stations, WCBS 880 AM and ESPN 1050 AM.
