The Mets signed seven international free agents altogether. Freddy Valdez, the No. 29 international prospect, signed for a $1.4 million bonus.

Mike Puma of the New York Post writes that Zack Wheeler may not be around to help the Mets return to the playoffs in the future. Wheeler has been named in trade rumblings leading up to the trade deadline.

This Day in Mets History

2000: Gregory Sweeney, a 26-year-old Brooklyn man, was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment at Shea Stadium. Sweeney threw a baseball back onto the field after Braves reliever John Rocker tossed the ball into the stands. Rocker was exonerated of all charges a few days later.
