Good Morning, Mets fans!

Friday night, Rick Porcello took the mound again against the Atlanta Braves for the second time in five days looking for redemption after a terrible outing during game three of the season. Porcello’s outing was better than his first, but nowhere near where he needs to be just yet. His final line was 4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 5 K, 3 BB in the Mets’ excruciating 11-10 loss to the Braves.

Tonight, Michael Wacha (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will take the mound against the Braves for the first time this season after a great Mets debut with a  five inning outing of one-run baseball. He will face off against Touki Toussaint. The game will be televised on SNY and broadcast on WCBS 880 at 7:10 PM.

Marcus Stroman threw four innings in a simulated game according to manager Luis Rojas, Jacob Resnick of MMO reported the comments Rojas had on what he saw from his outing.

Tim Britton of the Athletic reported that Rene Rivera has been placed not the injured list with a hyperextended left elbow. The corresponding move for the Mets was to call up RHP Franklyn Kilome.

The Mets have announced that David Peterson will make his second major league start on Sunday against the Braves, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB. Currently, the team’s probables for the rest of this Atlanta series are Michael Wacha on Saturday, David Peterson on Sunday, and Jacob deGrom on Monday.

Former Mets minor league pitcher Nabil Crismatt is being promoted by the St. Louis Cardinals according to MMO‘s own, Jacob Resnick, this call up is following the results of their COVID-19 tests where two of their pitchers tested positive.

ESPN reporter Jeff Passan revealed the MLB’s latest coronavirus test results from this past week. The results showed 29 positive tests out of 11,895 performed through July 30th, 21 of those from the Miami Marlins, and the other eight consist of one player and five staff members. This is 0.2% of the total tests performed.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that Commissioner Rob Manfred warns the MLBPA of a shutdown if the coronavirus is not better managed by the players. Scott Miller of Bleacher Report adds that in the health protocols that were sent to each club in a four-page memo, clubs must have a “compliance officer” who will travel with the team and oversee that protocols are being followed by players. He continued to mention that the MLB’s internal investigation with the Marlins following their outbreak,  was due to players not following protocols and going out and being at the hotel bars while in Atlanta for their exhibition games prior to the season’s start.

Jessica Kleinschmidt of NBC Sports shared the MLB’s News Release which discussed the MLB and MLBPA’s recent agreement to have seven-inning doubleheader games which will be in effect starting August 1st.

Following two positive COVID tests for the St. Louis Cardinals, reported by Craig Mish of Sports Grid, their game against the Milwaukee Brewers has been postponed according to Jon Heyman of MLBNetwork.

Jon Heyman of MLBNetwork reported on Friday that Marlins second baseman, Isan Diazis considering leaving the team’s hotel in Philly and opting out of the season. According to the test results from Thursday Diaz has tested negative for coronavirus. The team declined to comment.

The Chicago White Sox are calling up second baseman, Nick Madrigal according to Jeff Passan with ESPN. Madrigal is highly regarded in their system, as he was the team’s fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Baseball America has posted their first installment of the MLB power rankings after week-one of the season…and it may not come as a shock which team is in first place thus far.

The White Sox designated Kelvin Herrera for assignment. Herrera posted a 6.54 ERA in 59 games, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.

TJ Cotterill of Baseball America wrote about Jarred Kelenic tempting the Mariners during Summer Camp to bring him up early. The team spoke with the media mentioning that they want to be smart about their decision to bring up Kelenic, and they do not want to rush his call up.

The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to activate Clayton Kershaw who was sidelined with back tightness. He will make his season debut on Sunday according to manager Dave Roberts.

The Yankees will place Tommy Kahnle on the injured list and have recalled Jordan Montgomery. Kahnle was put on the injured list following a right ulnar collateral ligament injury.

Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported that the Marlins are planning to get busses to take those infected with coronavirus back to Miami. Those who have not tested positive will stay and then head to Baltimore, New York, and then Buffalo.
