Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets won their fifth straight game Monday night, clinching their first postseason berth since 2016 with a 7-2 victory. Pete Alonso hit a monstrous three-run homer, and Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor hit back-to-back triples against Corbin Burnes. Max Scherzer retired all 18 batters he faced in his return from the injured list, earning the 200th win of his career. The only blemish against the Mets was Rowdy Tellez hitting a two-run homer off Tylor Megill in the righty’s first outing in two months. With the Braves also winning last night, the Mets’ lead in the NL East remains at just one game.

The Mets and Brewers continue their series tonight with Carlos Carrasco (15-6, 3.70 ERA) taking the hill against southpaw Aaron Ashby (2-10, 4.58 ERA). The Mets faced Ashby at Citi Field on June 16, touching him up for four runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Mets are reportedly considering bringing Carlos Beltrán back to the organization. The former All-Star was hired to be the Mets’ manager after the 2019 season, but he stepped down before he ever managed a game amidst the Astros sign-stealing scandal.

Latest MLB News

The Tigers are hiring San Francisco Giants general manager Scott Harris to be their new president of baseball operations. Harris had previously declined an interview for the same position with the Mets.

Former Met Alejandro De Aza won the Atlantic League batting title for the Long Island Ducks. The 10-year veteran batted a strong .343 and is just the second Duck to win a batting title.

The Marlins have shut down southpaw Trevor Rogers for the season. The 2021 All-Star was diagnosed with a Grade 1 lat strain, and there isn’t enough time for him to recover during the regular season.
