Good morning, Mets fans!

It was a quiet day Tuesday as the baseball world awaited the upcoming World Series, which kicks off on Friday in Houston. However, the Marlins made some noise, hiring former major leaguer Skip Schumaker as their new manager. Craig Mish of MLB Network was the first to report the news.

Schumaker, 42, played for the Cardinals from 2005 to 2012, the Dodgers in 2013 and the Reds in 2014 and 2015. He batted .278/.337/.364 over more than 3500 plate appearances while playing outfield and second base. He served as a coach for the Padres and Cardinals before this recent promotion.

As was previously reported, former Mets manager Luis Rojas was in consideration for the job. Rojas is currently a coach with the Yankees.

Schumaker will succeed Don Mattingly and look to get the Marlins back to the playoffs.
