Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Seattle Mariners have signed outfielder AJ Pollock to a one-year, $7 million contract, pending physical. The 35-year-old Pollock, who mashes against left-handed pitching, joins new acquisitions Teoscar Hernandez and Kolten Wong in the Mariners lineup.

Mets owner Steve Cohen hosted a public forum to discuss possible ideas on what to do with the surrounding area of Citi Field. Cohen took input from people in what he called a “visioning session” and has made it known that he’s interested in putting out a bid to put a casino on the area. Just this past week, New York State announced that they were accept proposals for three downstate casinos, and Cohen is interested in offering one of those proposals.

Mets pitcher William Woods cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. Woods was designated for assignment to make room for reliever Adam Ottavino.

Ken Davidoff writes for the New York Post, a story about former Met Bret Saberhagen and how he’s assisted another former Met, Ron Hunt, in tackling his health issues and the bond formed between the two players.

2003: Gary Carter is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In his sixth try on the ballot, Carter was finally able to reach the threshold of induction. In five seasons as a Met, Carter slashed .249/.319/.412 with an OPS of .731. Hitting 89 home runs as a Met, with 349 RBI, Carter was the final piece to a rebuilding club that reached the pinnacle, by winning the World Series in 1986, as well as reaching the NLCS in 1988 after a 100 win season.
