Good morning, Mets’ fans. Welcome to October 1 which marks the final day of the 2023 regular season.

The New York Mets had a big day Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader the playoff-bound Philadelphia Phillies. They outscored Philadelphia 15-7 across the two games.

They’ll look for the sweep this afternoon with José Butto on the mound.

After throwing his final game of the season this week, Kodai Senga credited Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso, and Daniel Vogelbach, among other teammates as well, for easing his transition into the United States in 2023. In an article by Tim Healey of Newsday Sports, Senga said, “I can proudly say that from the bottom of my hear that I really appreciate them. If it weren’t for them, nothing would’ve gone as smoothly as it did.”

Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Tylor Megill “tinkered” with a splitter in Saturday’s game against the Phillies. It was the first time in his career and he used the ghost fork grip that he learned from Kodai Senga. Megill called it the, “American Spork,” since Senga has the ghost fork.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that an MRI on Brandon Nimmo’s shoulder revealed no rotator cuff damage to the shoulder. Manager Buck Showalter said it sounds like a relatively minor injury that will cost Nimmo the rest of this season but shouldn’t affect him in 2024.
