Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that Keith Hernandez remains unsigned despite recent negotiations with SNY for the former Mets star to return to the booth for Mets games. Puma notes that he expects talks to pick back up after the New Year, but didn’t give us a percentage estimate of how likely a deal was.

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced their signing of designated hitter J.D. Martinez. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated former Met Jake Reed for assignment.

Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported that 10 veteran umpires are retiring from Major League Baseball: Ted Barrett, Greg Gibson, Tom Hallion, Sam Holbrook, Jerry Meals, Jim Reynolds, Bill Welke, Marty Foster, Paul Nauert and Tim Timmons. Hallion will always have a place in Mets history as the umpire that said “ass in the jackpot” following Noah Syndergaard throwing behind Chase Utley as retribution for the Dodgers second baseman breaking the leg of Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada with a tackle in the 2015 NLDS.
