Neil Best of Newsday reported that Mets radio play-by-play announcer Howie Rose will scale back on calling games this season. Rose had surgery in September for a condition that he had dealt with for most of the season which led him to sit out the remainder of the 2021 campaign. Rose plans to do most games this season but will likely sit out long road trips, primarily out west.

MLB Pipeline released its top 100 prospects list. Mets C prospect Francisco Alvarez has risen up and is listed in the top 10 of the 100 prospects listed. Alvarez is also listed as the number 3 catching prospect in baseball.

Luis Guillorme Sr, the father of current Mets infielder Luis Guillorme, tweeted out a photo of a young Luis in catchers gear from his first little league game.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that MLB will have a 20 round draft during the All Star week in Los Angeles from July 17th-19th along with having a draft combine from June 14th-20th at Petco Park.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network details that the Texas Rangers reached out to Kyle Seager and asked if he wanted to reverse his retirement and play with his brother, Corey. The elder Seager declined, stating he enjoyed doing chores at home for the time being.

Ben Cafardo of ESPN tweets out the early dates for the 2021 Sunday Night Baseball schedule. Currently, the Mets appear twice on SNB, May 1st and May 29, both matchups against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Matt Duffy signed with the Los Angeles Angels for $1.5 million. The team also signed relievers Archie Bradley to a one year, $3.75 million deal and Ryan Tepera to a two-year, $14 million deal.

The Chicago Cubs have signed former Met Jonathan Villar to a one year, $6 million deal with an option for 2023 as well as signing reliever Mychal Givens, to a one year, $5 million deal.

Brendan Kuty of NJ.com tweets that the Yankees have placed Domingo German on the 60-day IL.

The Cincinnati Reds have signed Colin Moran to a one year, $1 million deal.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-signed reliever Jimmy Nelson to a one year, $700k deal with an option for 2023. The team also re-signed pitcher Danny Duffy to a one year deal. Duffy was acquired by Los Angeles for bullpen depth but did not appear in a game for them due to a setback from an injury.

David O’Brien of The Athletic reports that the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres are both engaged in talks for Jorge Soler.

The Staten Island Ferry Hawks are currently hosting open tryouts for the community. The team guarantees that one contract will be given out.

2000: The Mets acquired utility infielder Joe McEwing. Labeled as “Super Joe,” McEwing was seen as a Swiss Army Knife, being able to fit into any position in the infield and outfield. Hitting .243 in five seasons as a Met, McEwing was also best known for being one of the few Met players in the early 2000’s who was able to handle hard-throwing Diamondbacks ace Randy Johnson.
