Good Morning Mets Fans. The wait is over, Happy Opening Day ! The New York Metropolitans will open the 2017 Major League Baseball regular season against the Atlanta Braves.

Noah Syndergaard will take the mound for the Mets and will be opposed by Julio Teheran of the Braves. Today’s game is scheduled to start at 1:10 PM ET and can be seen on SNY and ESPN as well as heard on WOR.

James Wagner of the NY Times asks how much harder can a starter throw? Wagner speaks of Syndergaard and his average velocity as well as his goals for the coming season. Earlier reports from spring training had stated that Thor had bulked up in hopes of topping his average fastball velocity of 97.9 MPH. Now though he is more focused on just making the game easier for himself, throwing less pitches and getting deeper into games. The Mets ace is primed for a big season, maybe even one that could bring another CY Young Award to Queens.

Expectations are quite high yet again for the Mets as they ready to begin battle in 2017. Mike Puma of the NY Post takes a look at the ways this team could possibly go all the way this season. His two biggest points are no secret to most, the health of the rotation and catcher, Travis d’Arnaud‘s ability to finally put it all together. Health for the team in general, pitching and offense will be the theme for this club. If able to stay healthy, the sky is the limit for the Mets.

Four members of the Mets will be experiencing their first opening day today in Queens. Robert Gsellman, Josh Smoker, T.J. Rivera and Ty Kelly have all been included on the team’s 25-man roster for the first time in their career’s to start a Major League season.  It is sure to be an exciting day for the quartet of deserving players.
