Good Morning Mets Fans. The New York Metropolitans (2-2) continue their series with the Miami Marlins (2-2) today as Robert Gsellman makes his first start of the season. He will be opposed by Marlins southpaw, Adam Conley.

Zack Wheeler made his much anticipated 2017 debut in Friday night’s 7-2 loss to the Miami Marlins. After a spectacular first inning, Miami jumped on Wheeler quick. He ended the night with pitching just four innings as he allowed five runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one. Both Wheeler and Manager, Terry Collins spoke on his first start since September 25, 2014, after the game.
Wheeler on his first start: “I wanted to come out here and dominate today, sort of put my foot down like I’m back, I belong here. … It’s knocking some rust off…it’s not what I wanted, but it was good to be out there. … I’m not down. It stinks that I lost, that I really didn’t give us a chance to win. But it’s a long season. I will improve and do better.”
Terry Collins on Wheeler: “As I told him, ‘Hey, it’s step one. It’s not going to be easy. This is a very, very good league that you haven’t been in in two years.’ It’s going to take a little time to get him right. … It’s the first step in a long road back. He’s back out there and he’s going to get better.”
After Friday’s game, the Mets announced that they have called up reliever, Paul Sewald and designated utility-man, Ty Kelly for assignment. The bullpen has had to be used quite a bit over the last few games due to extra innings and a short outing. Sewald had himself a terrific spring and a successful run in Las Vegas last season that saw him pitch to a 5-3 record with an ERA of 3.29. A bright spot though in Friday’s game came at the arm of Rafael Montero. The once thought to be can’t miss prospect has continued to show he still has something in the tank as he bailed the bullpen out quite a bit against Miami in the opening game of the series. After Wheeler was only able to complete four innings, Montero came in and pitched 2.2 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out and walking two batters.
