Good morning, Mets fans!
There’s some not-so-great news about Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com says that Alvarez needs thumb surgery, according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza.
Mendoza also mentioned that, after 10-14 days, the Mets will try to see if he can play through it. If he can’t, there’s a chance he might not be able to play the rest of the season.

NL Standings Update
The Phillies beat the Mariners 6-4. It was their third win in a row to match the Mets’ current winning streak. They maintain a 5.5-game lead over New York in the division.
The Reds, meanwhile, beat the Angels 6-4 to extend their winning streak to three as well. They remain a game behind the Mets for the third Wild Card spot.
The Padres ended their four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Giants. They’re 2.5 games ahead of the Mets for the second Wild Card spot.

Pitcher Paul Blackburn’s tenure with the Mets has concluded with his official release.

According to Kendall Barker of Yahoo Sports, preliminary negotiations regarding MLB rights deals “are close to being done.” Apple would withdraw its bid for the rights to broadcast Friday Night Baseball. NBC and Peacock would secured exclusive rights to broadcast Friday and Sunday games, as well as the Wild Card Series. Additionally, MLB.TV would be sold to ESPN in a substantial transaction. Netflix would also acquire the rights to host the Home Run Derby.
