Opening Day is just four days away. The Mets don’t have an Opening Day starter after injuries to Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer (for the time), but nevertheless, the 2022 season starts in right around 100 hours.

Dominic Smith is still on the Mets.

After rumors of a trade involving Dom, Chris Paddack, Eric Hosmer, Emilio Pagan and $34 million, the Mets reportedly ultimately decided not to follow through with the deal.

On top of that, Max Scherzer talked to the media regarding his hamstring. Though he may not be able to start Opening Day due to “tightness” (he skipped a simulated game Saturday), he said his hamstring issues usually last just a couple days.

In more wholesome news, Scherzer reportedly bought out a whole mini-golf course for the team Saturday night.

Atlanta reliever Luke Jackson has UCL damage, per the year, and he’ll like;y undergo Tommy John surgery.

Justin Upton was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels today. He’s owed $28 million this season but nothing beyond 2022. He will likely sign with another team once he clears waivers and isn’t owed his full salary by another team.

Emmanuel Clase, a reliever for the Guardians, inked a five-year, $20 million extension with the Guardians, according to Joel Sherman. It buys out four years of team control and one free-agent year. The team also has an option for 2027 and 2028 for $10 million each year.

The Yankees traded for catcher Jose Trevino from Texas, the team said. They sent pitchers Albert Abreu and Robert Ahlstrom back to the Rangers.

Harrison Bader signed a two-year deal worth a guaranteed $10.4 million, according to The Atheltic‘s Ken Rosenthal. It buys out his final two years of team control.

Sadly, Tigers top prospect Riley Greene has a fractured foot and will not make the Opening Day roster. Conversely, Spencer Torkleson, the team’s other top prospect, will make the Opening Day roster.

In other young buck news, the Pirates reportedly offered Ke’Bryan Hayes a long-term deal in order to keep the third baseman in the organization, according to Jon Heyman.

Longtime television analyst (and former catcher) Tim McCarver is retiring from broadcasting, according to the New York Post.

The biggest moment in Mets history on this day came in 1966. The Mets won a lottery that allowed them to sign Tom Seaver after the Atlanta Braves had to forfeit their signing due to Seaver playing in two college games prior to signing.
