Good morning, Mets fans!

Yesterday, the Mets spent another day of the offseason waiting idly for free agents to fall into their lap for a cheap price. They, yet again, accomplished nothing.

Wait, those two sentences were wrong. Sorry, force of habit.

Instead, the Mets remained active on several trade fronts and have seemingly made it clear that they intend to have a win-now approach for the 2019 season.

Andy Martino of SNY revealed that the Mariners will send approximately $60 million dollars to the Mets to cover Robinson Cano’s monster deal. Later in the day, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports wrote that the Mariners are only expected to cover $20 million of the Cano’s contract. The exact amount is currently unknown.

Even though the deal hasn’t been finalized yet, it’s expected to be in the coming days. The discrepancies in the financials may have been attuned to simple miscalculation due to the inclusion of Bruce’s and Swarzak’s deal.

The Mets non-tendered fan favorite and all-time walk-off leader Wilmer Flores. Travis d’Arnaud was retained by the team and will earn a projected $3.7 million dollar salary in 2019.

Mike Puma of The New York Post says that the Mets will most likely add a setup man via free-agency. He lists David Robertson and Andrew Miller as possibilities.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic thinks that the Mets next big move will be trading Noah Syndergaard.

Even though Addison Russell is still suspended for domestic violence, the Cubs rather surprisingly tendered him a deal.

Many teams also avoided arbitration with their arb-eligible players. Some of the more well-known players who re-signed with their clubs include Tony Cingrani (Dodgers, 2.65 million), Hernan Perez (Brewers, 2.6 million), C.J. Cron (Twins, 4.8 million), Danny Salazar (Indians 4.5 million), Jonny Venters (Braves 2.25 million) and Joe Panik (Giants, 3.85 million).

Buster Olney of ESPN tweets that Craig Kimbrel is looking for a six-year deal.

The Giants, rather shockingly, DFA’d Hunter Strickland and Gorkys Hernandez.
