Former Angels communications director Eric Kay was sentenced to 22 years in prison in the overdose death of Tyler Skaggs. Kay faced a minimum of 20 years behind bars, but Judge Terry Means said he upped the sentence because of remarks Kay had made in prison where Means said he hadn’t accepted responsibility or expressed remorse.

MLB Trade Rumors released their arbitration projections for the eight Mets that are eligible. Pete Alonso was listed at $15.9 million while reigning batting champion Jeff McNeil is projected to make $6.2 million.

The Phillies attacked Max Fried early and often, tagging him for six runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. Nick Castellanos collected three hits and drove in three runs, but the Braves made things interesting thanks to a ninth-inning three-run homer by Matt Olson. Zach Eflin was able to escape however to give Philadelphia a 7-6 win and a 1-0 series lead.

The Mariners also beat up an ace, scoring six runs off Justin Verlander in just four innings. However, an Alex Bregman two-run homer in the eighth inning cut the Seattle lead to 7-5, giving Houston life. After Paul Sewald couldn’t put away Jeremy Peña with two outs and two strikes in the ninth, Yordan Álvarez stunned the Mariners with a walk-off three-run homer off Robbie Ray. Álvarez is the first player in MLB postseason history to hit a walk-off home run with his team trailing by multiple runs.

The Guardians jumped out first against the Yankees thanks to a Steven Kwan homer off Gerrit Cole. However, the Yankees responded with homers from Harrison Bader and Anthony Rizzo, while Cole settled down, striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Clay Holmes retired the only two batters he faced to secure the 4-1 victory.

In Los Angeles, Trea Turner‘s first-inning homer set the tone for the Dodgers’ offense, as they attacked Mike Clevinger for five runs in 2 2/3 innings. After the Padres scored three off Julio Urías in the fifth inning, Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia, Brusdar Graterol, and Chris Martin combined to hold the Padres at bay for a 5-3 win.

MLB has released the remainder of the Division Series schedule and broadcast info. The Braves and Phillies will shift over to FS1 starting Friday, and they will play at 4:37 pm on Friday and 2:07 on Saturday. If the series extends to a game 5, that game will be played Sunday at 2:07. Houston and Seattle will continue to occupy the other daytime slots (4:07, 3:07, 5:07). The Yankees and Guardians are slotted to play at 7:37 on Saturday and Monday (if necessary) and 7:07 on Sunday. The Dodgers and Padres are scheduled for 8:37 on Friday, 9:37 on Saturday (if necessary), and 9:07 on Sunday (if necessary).

MLB became the first big-league sports property to have a sponsorship deal with a CBD company. Charlotte’s Web will now be designated as the “Official CBD of Major League Baseball.”

1969: Jerry Koosman and Ron Taylor combine to give up just two hits, and Al Weis‘ single in the ninth inning off Dave McNally gives the Mets a 2-1 win to even up the World Series with the Orioles.

2000: After the Cardinals score twice in the eighth inning to tie the game, Jay Payton singles home Joe McEwing in the top of the ninth to give the Mets a 6-5 win and a 2-0 series lead in the NLCS. Mike Piazza hits a homer, Al Leiter allows three runs and strikes out nine in seven innings, and Armando Benítez earns the save.

2006: In Game 1 of the NLCS, Carlos Beltrán snaps a scoreless tie with a two-run homer off Jeff Weaver, and that’s all the support Tom Glavine needed. Glavine tosses seven shutout innings, and Billy Wagner secures the win with a scoreless ninth inning.

2015: In the first playoff game in Citi Field history, the Mets fight back from a 3-0 deficit with a four-run second inning, highlighted by Curtis Granderson‘s three-run double. Travis d’Arnaud hits a two-run homer, and Yoenis Céspedes puts the game to bed with a monstrous three-run homer as the Mets dominate the Dodgers, 13-7. Matt Harvey dodges traffic on the basepaths but earns the win, and the Mets now have a 2-1 series lead.
