The Los Angeles Angels released a statement on the verdict of the trial, expressing sadness for the Skaggs’ family and compassion for the players testimony, which detailed drug addiction. The family of the deceased also released a statement, expressing their thanks for the local government while also detailing the loss of their loved one.

1973: Pitcher Shawn Estes is born. Pitching in 23 starts in his lone season as a Met in 2002, Estes is well known to Mets fans as the pitcher who took Roger Clemens deep on June 15th, 2002. This marked the first time Clemens faced the Mets after throwing a broken bat at catcher Mike Piazza during the 2000 World Series. Estes would first throw a ball behind Clemens during his at bat in an attempt to hit him, failing. Fortunately, Estes would hit a ball over the left field wall to exact revenge on Clemens for a 2-run homer. Estes would go 4-9 as a Met, posting a 4.55 ERA.
