Good morning, Mets fans!

One of the league’s most dominant closers is nearing his return.

After throwing a perfect inning in a minor league intrasquad scrimmage, Edwin Díaz said he could appear in a Grapefruit League scrimmage game next week, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.

Díaz was pleased with the minor league intrasquad scrimmage, Healey said on X. His fastball sat between 96-98 miles per hour, an improvement from the previous week, and concluded with a strikeout of top prospect Jett Williams

Healey said the next step for Díaz is another appearance against minor leaguers later this week, before a game with the big league team the following week.
