An interesting turn of events took place in the middle of the Carlos Correa-to-the-Mets saga, and it potentially involves another suitor for his services. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported yesterday that Carlos Correa’s camp has touched base with one or two teams over the last few days, as the contract discussions with the Mets and Steve Cohen over contract stipulations were said to be “sticky.” The Mets are optimistic that they can still hammer out a deal as it’s reported that Cohen as rejoined talks along with Billy Eppler and company.

Catcher Tony Wolters has agreed to a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins, as reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Hannah Keyser of Yahoo Sports writes about the skill of framing pitches as a catcher and how that will be affected by the impending implementation of robo-umpires.

As tweeted by Jack Curry of the YES Network, the New York Yankees have hired former Mets general manager Omar Minaya, as an advisor to the baseball operations department. This is the Yankees’ second big name hire in as many days, as he joins former Giants general manager Brian Sabean. Minaya served as Mets general manager from 2004 to 2010 and was brought back in 2017 to serve as a special advisor to then general manager Sandy Alderson, before being let go in 2020.

The San Diego Padres have signed pitcher Wilmer Font to a minor league deal. Font spent the last two seasons in Korea, pitching 53 games and bringing his fastball to around 95 mph. Font pitched in 15 games for the Mets in 2019, putting up an ERA of 4.94 in 31 innings pitched.

The Cincinnati Reds announced that they have released infielder Mike Moustakas. The 34-year old infielder was designated for assignment on December 22nd to make room for newly signed catcher Curt Casali.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com tweets that the Baltimore Orioles have claimed IF Lewin Diaz off waivers from the Atlanta Braves and have designated IF Ryan O’Hearn for assignment.

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that the owner of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, Joe Lacob, is interested in purchasing the Los Angeles Angels. Current owner Arte Moreno put the team up for sale in August and Lacob then emerged as a suitor for the club.
