Per Tim Healey of Newsday Sports, Brandon Nimmo reiterated on Saturday that he is fully healthy and is aiming to return to the playing field for live games next week. Nimmo said he doesn’t value spring training at bats as much and has been increasing his workload. “Let’s be honest, I’ve been playing for seven years now,” Nimmo said. “When the lights turn on, I’m going to be ready to go.”

David Peterson took a comeback hit off the outside of his left foot during Saturday’s game against the Marlins. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Peterson was headed back to Port St. Lucie on Saturday evening for an x-ray after being “pretty sore” from the impact.

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, veteran relief pitcher Will Smith has signed a major league contract with the Texas Rangers.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB Network, Major League Baseball sent a memo to clubs on Friday clarifying that umpires will call a quick pitch if the pitcher delivers the ball before the batter is “reasonably set” in the batter’s box (i.e., timing the hitter’s eyes looking up). Feinsand went on to reiterate that the rule has always been for player safety and the pitch clock doesn’t change that. The penalty is a ball with the bases empty and a balk with runners on base.

Per Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Trevor Rosenthal and the Detroit Tigers have agreed to a deal.
