Mark Vientos snapped a season-long slump with his first homer of the year Thursday night, a shot off the right field foul pole that helped the Mets top the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 at Citi Field. The win ended New York’s first losing streak of the season and moved it to 12-7. Ken Rosenthal and Tim Britton of The Athletic wrote about Jonah Rosenthal, the Dodgers scout who originally signed Mets pitcher Justin Hagenman and is beating his own odds through his recovery after recently suffering a stroke.

On Saturday, April 18, Mets 1969 World Series Champion Art Shamsky will be at Mets House in Union Square for a signing of his book, “Mets Stories I Only Tell My Friends”.

As noted by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Frankie Montas (strained right lat) has been playing catch from 90 feet and is aiming to begin bullpen sessions in about two weeks. While there’s no set timeline, that progression keeps him on track for a potential return in late May or early June.

Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports that MLB handed down suspensions following an incident between the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates, giving Jorge López three games and Davey Martinez one. López has filed an appeal and can continue pitching until his hearing takes place. Martinez, unable to appeal as a manager, will serve his suspension immediately and miss today’s game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced they have optioned pitcher Bobby Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma.

The Atlanta Braves recalled outfielder Alex Verdugo to the major league club and optioned outfielder Bryan De La Cruz to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Los Angeles Angels and Héctor Neris agreed to a minor league deal and have assigned him to the Arizona Complex League.

The Colorado Rockies have parted ways with hitting coach Hensley Meulens. Clint Hurdle, currently serving as a special assistant to the GM, will take over as hitting coach for the rest of the season.

Amid a string of injuries, the Twins are expected to call up top prospect Luke Keaschall from Triple-A St. Paul this weekend, per Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic. With Royce Lewis, Matt Wallner, Willi Castro and Carlos Correa all sidelined or potentially unavailable due to injury, Keaschall is set to make his MLB debut.
