Before he left the Mets clubhouse for the last time, Barajas spoke with reporters.
“It was disappointing. We were excited. I think all the Mets’ fans in New York were excited. Things were going great. We were putting ourselves in a great situation. Even to the All-Star break we were in a pretty decent spot. Once the struggles came for myself and the team, it kind of took a little bit of the excitement out of it. It just didn’t go in the right direction. It was not what we anticipated after the start that we had.”
Barajas was pumped to be going to the Dodgers who are in the thick of a playoff chase.
It will be interesting to see how Josh Thole handles the pressure that will now be placed on him moving forward.
The bottom line is he has to keep hitting those singles and making adjustments as the league adjusts to him. He has literally no power to speak of, so as long as he keeps hitting he’ll be fine, but if his average slips below .250 with zero homers, it could get dicey for him.
In 40 games played, Thole has just four extra-base hits in 97 at-bats. Twenty-four of his 28 hits this season are singles.
