Mets fans, an all-new episode is here!

This week Mike and I discuss the news of Ronny Mauricio’s promotion to major leagues and what fans should expect from the Mets #3 prospect. We react to the news of the Kevin Howard firing and the rest of the personnel shakeup within player development, has DJ Stewart shown enough to be a part of the teams 2024 plan, Mike updates us on when we could see pitching prospect Mike Vasil up in Queens this season, the latest from the Pete Alonso contract saga, and much more!

What should the expectations be for the young infielder? For Mike, Mauricio is still a raw player but has the tools to be a good major leaguer, and it was time for the team to see what he could do at the big-league level:

“This is really the only choice the Mets had at this point. Mauricio started the year off really hot hitting a lot of home runs, but still wasn’t walking at all. He slowed down a little bit which seemed to coincide with an ankle issue that he had, and also the Mets deciding to finally move him around a little bit on defense. I think the Mets realized that this guy was getting close to the big leagues and they hadn’t played him anywhere else yet. The team still had him exclusively at shortstop coming into this year, Mauricio played a little bit of third base and second during winter ball, but the Mets hadn’t put him anywhere else yet. Mauricio actually got hurt in the time when he was learning left field this year and probably rushed back a little too soon, so he struggled in June and most of July. But, in the last 12 games, the team decided to play Mauricio exclusively at second base, and he’s done really well in August as a result. He set a career-high in walks in August with 11, along with eight stolen bases, both of which he’s never shown too much of but is showing improvement. Mauricio just seems more comfortable now, and it seems like he will be plugged in only at second base which should help him settle in as well.”
