Mets fans, an all-new episode is here!

This week we are joined by MLB Pipeline reporter Sam Dykstra to give his grade on the Mets 2023 draft class, discuss some of his favorite late-round picks, which of the many arms taken by the Amazin’s could be a future impact player, Sam fill us in on some of what the evaluations process is like, and much more!

Did the Mets have a successful draft despite not picking until 32nd? For Sam, the team hit it big with their first pick, and we’re smart to stock up on college pitchers:

“You have to start at the top, and when you’re drafting 32nd overall as your first pick, you get a little worried about who’s going to be available to you. So the Mets getting a high school shortstop like Colin Houck, who we had as #12 in our MLB Pipeline top 250 player-ranking, so to get the #12 guy 32nd overall they must have been doing cartwheels. Now when you zoom out a little bit, you talk about the Mets being pitching heavy, I think they took arms with eight of their first ten picks, and then going deeper they went heavy on high school shortstops, but that’s just where you have to draft. Good pitching is hard to find, so If you’re looking to bring up arms through the system sometimes you just have to go for quantity over quality and deepen your chances of at least finding someone who can help out in the future in the big league rotation or at least in the bullpen.”
