How big of an impact does Steve Cohen now have on the Mets? According to Mike, the Mets owner spearheaded the Correa signing pretty by himself, cementing his statements of committing to winning:
“From people that I’ve spoken to, this negotiation was essentially run by Steve Cohen between him and Boras for Correa. Billy Eppler was kept in the loop, but that was more of a ‘hey this is what’s going on’ and Cohen really acting as the President of baseball operations. This also sounds similar to what happened when they went after Justin Verlander, he said that Cohen was the first one from the Mets that called him early in the offseason to let him know their plans, which was a big reason why Verlander ultimately became a Met. Now thanks to Cohen, not only do the Mets have arguably the best starting staff in all of baseball, but with the addition of Correa is there a better infield in the sport too? I’d have to say no.”
