I’m typing this as the celebration is just beginning in the Dodgers clubhouse after their game 7 win. They were just this much better than the Braves were fundamentally and it showed in big spots in game 7. For the WS, the Rays and Dodgers are both fundamentally sound with good pitching and strong defenses. They both play as a team and aren’t afraid to take chances.

That said, my first impression after the last out of the NLCS turned to the NBA. In the NBA, star power wins out more times than not, like this year with the Lakers. The Dodgers, with Betts, Bellinger, Kershaw and others have better players than the Rays and I think that will be the difference, unscientific as it may sound. The Rays pride themselves as a group able to win without the $100 million superstar. They have done well to reach this far. I think this is far as they go. I like the Dodgers in 6 giving the city of Los Angeles its second championship this fall.

The post season played out the way it should. Two division winners will square off in the World Series. There won’t be a sub .500 team playing for baseball’s biggest prize. This World Series will be very intriguing. On the one hand, there’s a big market team with a gigantic payroll. On the other hand, there’s a small market team with a small payroll that has made its way thus far through a heavy reliance on analytics.

It really is David versus Goliath. I’ll take the David in this scenario, and say the Rays will win in seven games. There is something special about this Rays team, and 2020 seems to be the year of champions in Tampa. Personally, I’ll be rooting hard for David to take Goliath down.

The Rays vs the Rays with money. I just don’t trust the Rays offense to beat the Dodgers over 7. So I’ll pick the Dodgers in 6. If the Dodgers bullpen can pitch like they did in Games 5-7, they’ll be in phenomenal shape. On the offensive side, Mookie, Muncy, Turner, and Bellinger will start going off sooner rather than later. I think they just have too much fire power to pick against them.

Now that the World Series is all set, it will be nice to see the two best teams play in the Fall Classic. I believe this will be a competitive series, but ultimately the Dodgers will finally get over the hump and win their first championship since 1988 in seven games.

It will be a competitive series especially on the pitching side (which I give the slight edge to the Rays because of their bullpen), but it will be Dodgers offense that becomes the difference maker. I expect Seager and Bellinger to stay hot at the plate and continue carrying the load for the Dodgers’ lineup, along with what has been a specular Dodgers defense this postseason.

This is such an interesting World Series because it’s really all about this team built with pitching versus a team built with offense, not to mention the payroll difference between the teams. I thought this would be the World Series match up as soon as the playoffs started just based on how well these teams were built. I think it’s going to be close because the Rays’ pitching staff is known for being crafty and dominant whereas the Dodgers’ offense is basically described the same way, but when you look at the Rays’ offense and the Dodgers’ pitching that’s the only iffy part going in.

If the Dodgers’ pitching can do well like they did in their last few games of the NLCS they will win. But, if the Rays’ offense can find that offensive spark I know they have, they will win. Either way, I think this will be a great series that will go seven games. Personally, my hope is that the Rays win in seven games, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Dodgers win.

The most interesting dynamic when breaking down the World Series is how the back end of the pen will play out, especially for Los Angeles. Which Kenley Jansen will we see? And depending on how the series plays out, could we see a scenario like Game 7 of the NLCS where Julio Urias was called upon to finish the job? Randy Arozarena announced himself in the ALCS but beyond him, this lineup is filled with a bunch of guys that can drag out at-bats and draw walks (second in the Majors in free passes).

On the other side of that coin though, they led the league in strikeouts in the regular season. How Dave Roberts pieces together this pitching staff will be one of the storylines to watch, but the Dodger lineup is more dangerous top to bottom and should help carry them to a World Series in six games.

Well seeing how I completely botched the World Series matchup, I’m not doing too well in my predictions…I am, however, going to predict that the Dodgers will win the series in 6. While the Rays have shown this entire shortened season that they are not a team to doubt, I think that the Dodgers are the entire package. They have the pitching, offense, defense, and coaching needed to win it all.

The Rays are a very deep team as well and have great team chemistry and seen in their impromptu dance battles. I think what puts the Dodgers ahead, however, is their playoff experience. The Rays certainly have that will and desire to win it all, but the Dodgers will have that much more, seeing how they have been to the World Series in three of the last four years yet haven’t won one since 1988.

Money talks. Does it talk enough to win a World Series? Well…. yes. Now I’m not saying that I want the Dodgers to win, but do I expect them to? Yes. The Rays will give them a run for their money, just like the Braves did. But ultimately, they will most likely come out World Series winners. Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, and Clayton Kershaw are a winning combination — and can’t forget MVP Corey Seager‘s NLCS performance, that momentum should carry.
