Which Mets player will bust out in the World Series like Daniel Murphy did in the NLCS?

Brian Greenzang – This is Yoenis Cespedes’ time to shine. This is his final chance to showcase himself to show the player he is as he gets ready to enter a big free agency opportunity for himself. As long as he is healthy and ready to go, he is the guy I expect to put this offense on his back and lead them to the promised land. Can you imagine what a World Series MVP award would do for “La Potencia?”

Matt Balasis – Duda … Duda smash.

Michael Mayer – The World Series is going to be Lucas Dudas‘ time to shine, he showed signs of breaking out towards the end of the NLCS. When he is on, he can absolutely carry a team offensively and he will do just that against the Royals.

XtreemIcon – Lucas Duda is as streaky as Murphy and seemed to hit a stride in games three and four of the NLCS. And since the Royals are throwing all right handers, this could be a great week for him. And speaking of all right handers, Michael Conforto should start every game and I can see him getting into a groove.

Spencer BarnesWilmer Flores. Could there be any more fitting ending to 2015 than a game-winning, season-ending hit from Flo leading to a tearful acceptance of a World Series MVP trophy? David Wright, Lucas Duda, and Michael Conforto will have important contributions as well.

Logan Barer – Daniel Murphy. He’s not done yet!

Matt Fritz – I actually believe that Lucas Duda is going to step up big time this World Series for the Mets. He’s just 6-28 this postseason but three of those hits were huge, all coming in the Mets game four clincher in Chicago where Duda went 3-4 with a HR, double, and five RBI’s. All four Royals starters are right-handed. Duda hit 20 of his 27 homeruns this year against right-handed pitching. Look for Lucas to continue what he started in game four of the NLCS into this World Series.

Gerry Silverman – The layoff between series makes it tough to determine who has the potential to be an offensive star as whatever momentum was established in the NLCS has had to be put in stasis. Still, the batters who looked to be heating up the most as the pennant was being won were Lucas Duda, Travis d’Arnaud, and David Wright. Given Duda’s penchant for power streaks along with his apparent emergence from his strikeout-laden funk of a postseason, I would think that his potential to shine could be the greatest. Cespedes clearly loves the big stage as well so, hopefully they will form a two-headed power monster to lead the team to glory.

Stephanie Sheehan – Position player wise, I say either Lucas Duda or David Wright. Duda’s timing looks like it has finally returned after disappearing all postseason long, and David is starting to make better contact in addition to drawing walks. Plus, both of their gloves have really been hot at both corners. David has made a number of heads up plays that have certainly prevented more than a few runs form scoring, and Duda continues to play a solid first base. As for pitching, Matt Harvey definitely has the toughest task in starting the first game and a potential clincher if the series goes five (which, for what it’s worth, I think it will). His outing against the Cubs in game one of the NLCS was absolutely dominating, and I certainly believe he can replicate it again in KC. Plus, if the series extends into seven games, the Mets have already expressed the possibility of using him out of the bullpen if needed. If you ask me, Harvey starting and finishing the World Series would just be one of the greatest stories of this season, given all the ridiculous drama that seems to follow him everywhere he goes.

Connor O’Brien – Travis d’Arnaud. I think he’s been one of the unsung heroes of the 2015 Mets and certainly the most underrated. He’s become one of the best hitting catchers in baseball, approaching what Buster Posey can do. He hit two home runs in the NLCS and seems to be heating up at the right time.
