If you have been living on Twitter during this quarantine like many of us have, you have likely seen this tweet go around:

Have you answered it? I did and naturally lots of Yankees fans slid into my DMs and mentions very much not happy with me.

But let’s be real, Yankee Stadium just isn’t a good ballpark. It’s the worst one I’ve been to (and no, to the men in my mentions, I have not been to The Trop, but again, low bar).

I took this question to my fellow MMO writers to see what they had to say. Are they in agreement with me? Are they not? What’s their favorite and their worst? Here’s what they had to say.

Out of the ballparks I’ve been to, I’d say my favorite is easily PNC Park. The view from behind home plate is unbeatable. I might be biased though because after spending my undergraduate years in Pittsburgh, the city has stolen my heart.

First stadium: Dodger Stadium
Last stadium: PK Park
Best stadium: AT&T (now Oracle)
Worst stadium: Cashman Field

Growing up in LA, Dodger Stadium was my first ballpark and the one I’ve been to by far the most times. It’s pretty good, as long as you don’t sit near the left field foul pole. PK Park, home of the Oregon Ducks and Eugene Emeralds, is my most recent park as I was covering Ducks games before the season unfortunately got cut short. Oracle Park, which was called AT&T Park when I went, has got to be my favorite.

From being able to walk to the stadium with groups of other friendly fans, to the view of the bay in the background, to the spectacular Ghiradelli ice cream stand, it really is about as good as a ballpark can get. It almost made me want to be a Giants fan (emphasis on almost). I want to make one clarification: While I did put Cashman Field (the former home of the Las Vegas 51s) as my least favorite, I only put it there because I have never really “hated” a ballpark, and objectively speaking, Cashman Field is the worst park I’ve been to.

It was old and run down with a barely functioning scoreboard, but I still loved it for its homey and casual feeling along with the familiar faces of the ushers and cashiers. Sure, it was a dump, but it felt like my dump, you know? For me, as long as baseball is being played, I am happy at any ballpark and I like the unique traits and characteristics that each ballpark brings.

In my quest to visit all 30 ballparks, I’ve been able to visit six ballparks in the past 4 years: Busch, Citizens Bank, Citi, Fenway, PNC and Wrigley. I’ve noticed that every ballpark has its quirks. For example, in Pittsburgh the concourse doesn’t span around the entire stadium like at Citi, so if you are in left field and need to get to right field, you need to run around the entire stadium.

In Boston, while the stadium is extremely loud and full of history, the seats don’t have cup holders. Now, while that isn’t that bad on its own, the fact that the seats are so close together and close to the row in front of you, makes it difficult to be comfortable. So you’re sitting in your seat with your drink between your feet and there is about two inches separating your knee caps from the row front of you, and it’s just not ideal. So be aware of that if you’re going there.

My absolute favorite ballpark is Wrigley Field. Between the history, the score board, the ivy, the atmosphere, and the surrounding cute baseball town, there is nothing bad I have to say about it. The ballpark doesn’t have much around it for people to do other than watch the game which just makes the atmosphere that much more electric because everyone is glued to the game.

My visit to Wrigley came in 2016 when the Mets played the Cubs in July. The matchup was Noah Syndergaard versus Jake Arrieta and the entire game was a nail bitter. But, the Mets were able to squeak out a win in extras to put a cherry on top of an already amazing trip. I don’t really have a least favorite ballpark. Although, the Mets lost in Pittsburgh and Philly when I visited and that didn’t make the experience as exciting, I still loved the ambiance and the quirkiness of each park so far.

Best stadium: Camden Yards
Worst stadium: Veterans Stadium

Shea Stadium was my home away from home during baseball season growing up. When I was a kid I’d collect coupons from milk cartons and when I’d have enough for two tickets I would literally beg my dad or uncle to take me to Shea. The smell of the grass, the best hot dogs, those fountain Cokes, and the roar of the crowd, it was all heaven to me.

As I grew older, Shea was our favorite place to go on weekends and very often where I’d take my first date. After all, how else could I tell if she was a keeper?!

Veterans Stadium was an eyesore and had no character and it smelled awful. I lived in Philly for a few years and I’d only go when the Mets were in town, but even then I hated it there.

I went to Camden a few times when I was stationed in Norfolk and that cozy ballpark feeling was unmatched. Plus it’s the only ballpark I know of that had softshell crab sandwiches! Yum!!! And those two dollar beers!!!
