Yesterday’s GameYoenis Cespedes went 1-2 with a double, but the Mets fell to the Nationals at home, 8-6 on Saturday despite a late innings comeback attempt. Michael Conforto picked up a hit and drove in a run in his only at-bat, while Gavin Cecchini delivered a hit and drew two walks and scored twice. LHP Sean Gilmartin tossed 2.0 innings and gave up one earned run, RHP Logan Taylor also threw 2.0 innings and allowed one hit and struck one out. LHP Adam Wilk pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out one and surrendering one hit.

World Baseball Classic – The Mets will have 11 players depart for this year’s World Baseball Classic. Xorge Carrillo (Mexico), Gavin Cecchini (Italy), Jeurys Familia (Dominican Republic), Ty Kelly (Israel), Seth Lugo (Puerto Rico), Brandon Nimmo (Italy), José Reyes (Dominican Republic), René Rivera (Puerto Rico), T.J. Rivera (Puerto Rico), Hansel Robles (Dominican Republic) and Fernando Salas (Mexico) are all scheduled to participate. Ricky Bones will be the pitching coach for Puerto Rico.

Today’s Game – The Mets play their first of two home spring meetings against the Tigers today. Detroit returns to First Data Field on March 9. The Tigers and Mets will not face each other during the regular season. Right-hander Chris Flexen will get the start for the Mets this afternoon and will be opposed by left-hander Matthew Boyd for the Tigers. Also expected to pitch today for the Mets are RHP Paul Sewald, LHP David Roseboom, RHP Ben Rowen and RHP Fernando Salas.
