The Mets are about to embark on another tough, important stretch of games. Over the next 12 days, the Mets will play 13 games against the Phillies, Braves, and Yankees. First up – the Phillies for a three-game weekend set.
The Phillies have been surging lately, winners of eight of their last 10 games, and are 13 games above .500. However, they have been surging at the same time the Mets have been surging who are also winners of eight of their last ten so there are 10.5 games separating the two clubs.

Max Scherzer gets to kick off this stretch of games. Over 15 games and 95 2/3 innings this season, Scherzer has a 1.98 ERA, 2.45 FIP, 0.899 WHIP and a 203 ERA+. He’s coming off of a strong start against the Braves where he shut their offense out over seven innings, scattering four hits while striking out 11. Since returning from the injured list, he has made seven starts, totaling 46 innings with a 1.37 ERA.
Scherzer faced the Phillies a lot before he landed on the injured list. In his first start against them, he allowed one run from five hits and three walks while striking out seven. At the start of May, he faced the Phillies in back-to-back starts where he allowed seven runs from 15 hits while striking out 16. The Phillies have the following numbers against him:
- J.T. Realmuto 7-58, 2B, 2 HR, 4 BB, 18 K
- Jean Segura 12-33, HR, BB, 8 K
- Rhys Hoskins 1-26, 2B, BB, 14 K

- Alec Bohm 5-15, 5 K
- Johan Camargo 3-14, 5 K

The Mets bats will get another look at Ranger Suarez tonight. Ranger has made 19 starts and pitched 100 1/3 innings this year with a 3.68 ERA, 3.89 FIP, 1.365 WHIP and a 111 ERA+. Suarez missed a few starts in July due to back spasms, and he was effective when he pitched. Over three games and 16 innings he allowed three unearned runs, no earned runs, from 11 hits and two walks. As a comparison point, his last time out he allowed three earned runs from seven hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings against the Nationals.
Suarez hasn’t faced the Mets since his first start of the season in Philly. In that game the Mets got three runs from five hits and a walk over 2 2/3 innings. The Mets have the following career numbers against Suarez:
- Brandon Nimmo 3-7, 2 BB, K
- Pete Alonso 0-5, 2 BB, K
- Starling Marte 2-6, BB, K
- Eduardo Escobar 3-5, 2B, HR
- Francisco Lindor 0-3
- Mark Canha 1-2, K
