bartolo colon

The New York Mets and San Diego Padres will mix it up again tonight in a 7:10 PM contest at Citi Field.

Bartolo Colon (9-9, 4.60) will try to rebound from a forgettable start and he will oppose right-hander Tyson Ross (6-8, 3.45) for the Padres.

The Mets could be back in first place by the end of the night, albeit not in terms of winning percentage, depending on tonight’s results and a Washington Nationals loss.

The Mets have won three straight games and are 12-7 in their last 19 games. The Amazins are 52-48 after 100 games, their best record after 100 games since the 2008 club went 53-47.

Bartolo Colon is 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA in his last five home starts dating to May 25. Overall, he’s 6-3 with a 3.80 ERA in 10 home starts this season.

  4. Lucas Duda – 1B

  9. Bartolo Colon – RHP

Yesterday was a roller coaster day of emotions for the Mets. They woke up to a world where Tulo was traded to the Blue Jays, then there were whispers all day about the Mets not being done yet in terms of trades, then Mejia got suspended for using PEDs again (now for 162 games), finally Syndergaard tossed one of the best games of his career and Duda continued to show signs of improvement as the Mets moved to only one game back of the NL East lead.

Bartolo Colon takes the mound for the Amazins tonight. He is 9-9 over 19 starts and 117.1 innings with a 4.60 ERA. His first start after the All-Star break was one of the worst he had this season, his previous start was one of the best he had all season holding the Dodgers to 1 ER over 8.0 innings.

He missed the Padres earlier this year but last year in two starts he was 1-0 over 12.1 innings with a 4.38 ERA. The Padres have the following numbers against him:

  • M Upton 10-33, 2B, 3B, HR
  • J Upton 2-10
  • Kemp 3-7
  • Amarista 3-5, 2B
  • Venable 1-5
  • Wallace 1-5
  • Alonso 1-4
  • Barmes 2-3, 2B

The Mets bats will probably get a look at Tyson Ross tonight, who is also on the trading block, possibly making his last start as a Padres or maybe not making the start at all. He is 6-8 this season with a 3.45 ERA over 21 starts and 122.2 innings with a league leading 57 walks. In his last two starts he has pitched 12.1 innings with 14 K’s and only 2 walks (which is unusual for him) while allowing 7 runs, 6 earned.

He missed the Mets earlier this year but last year he shut out the Mets over 7.0 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers against Ross:

  • Uribe 3-12
  • Granderson 4-10, HR
  • K Johnson 3-5
  • Lagares 1-6
  • Murphy 1-6
  • Duda 1-3

Lets Go Mets!
