The Mets and Nationals played the first game of their highly anticipated series last night with the Mets taking the first game the way they’ve been winning all year: strong pitching and homers. Granderson smacked a homer on the first pitch in the game and Conforto added a second solo homer in the third inning. Besides that, the game was all Syndergaard. Tonight Bartolo Colon will look to keep that going as the Mets go for the series win against Gio Gonzalez and the Nats.

The Mets are 5-5 in their last 10 games. They posted their fourth shutout of the year last night. The four shutouts are tied for fourth in the majors. New York will play 11 of its next 14 games at Citi Field. The Mets are 10-6 at home this season, including winning nine of their last 11.
