The attention will be on Rosario tonight, and he’ll be playing behind Steven Matz who is 2-4 over nine games and 47 1/3 innings this year with a 5.51 ERA, 4.95 FIP and 1.500 WHIP. He had another rough outing his last time out against the Padres allowing six runs on nine hits in just three innings. In his last four starts, he has allowed 21 runs on 34 hits in 13 1/3 innings. As a positive, he hasn’t walked anyone in his last two starts while striking out nine (although you could probably make a joke about hitters not being patient since he’s allowing so many hits). He allowed 10 hits and a walk over six innings leading to only two runs last year against the Rockies. This year he had his worst start of the season against them allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk in one inning. The Rockies have the following numbers against Matz:

  • Blackmon 4-for-6, 2 2B
  • Arenado 1-for-5, HR
  • LeMahieu 3-for-4, BB
  • Reynolds 3-for-5, 2 2B
  • Story 2-for-4, 2B
  • Gonzalez 1-for-3, 2B

The Mets bats will get a look at Albany native Jeff Hoffman who is 6-3 over 13 games and 12 starts over 69 1/3 innings with a 5.58 ERA, 4.19 FIP, 1.385 WHIP. In his last seven starts, he has tossed 37 1/3 innings allowing 48 hits and 36 runs leading to an ERA of 8.44. In his last two starts, he has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) over seven innings. In the start before that, he faced the Mets where he allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

  • Bruce 2-for-3, 2B
  • Cabrera 1-for-3, HR
  • Conforto 0-for-3
  • Granderson 0-for-2
  • Reyes 0-for-2
  • R. Rivera 1-for-2, BB

NOTES

At age 21, Amed Rosario will be the youngest Met to debut since Dilson Herrera who was 20 when he appeared in his first game on August 29, 2014.

Yoenis Céspedes has hit .370 (10-for-27) with four home runs and nine RBI in seven career games at Coors Field. Céspedes hit three homers on August 21, 2015 at Coors Field.

Michael Conforto hit 4-for-14 (.286) with two home runs and three RBI during the series in his hometown in Seattle. Conforto is tied for the most homers in the majors with seven homers after the break with Bryce Harper, Giancarlo Stanton, Justin Smoak and J.D. Martinez. Conforto is the second Met age 24 or younger to hit 20 or more home runs before the end of July. David Wright (age 23) in 2006 is the other. Conforto has four multi-home run games this year (April 29, May 23, July 21 and July 28). He is the first Mets hitter to have four multi-home run games in a season
out of the leadoff spot in the batting order. His 21 home runs extend his career-best.

New York’s bullpen is 4-0 with five saves and a 2.85 ERA (13 earned runs/41.0 innings) since July 18.
