Who’s going to pitch for the Mets tonight?

Robert Stock will start for the Mets and we’ll break down his numbers later, but after Stock it’s a pretty large question mark. The Mets played a hell of a back and forth game last night eventually winning in the 11th inning. The Mets needed to use 7 pitchers to get to the end of the game and this was after the used 6 pitchers on Sunday. So the Mets bullpen is pretty much as taxed as it has every been right now.

But wins are wins and now the Mets need to figure out how to do it again today. Yesterday the offense broke out in a huge way hitting 7 homers. With the Mets getting a spot start from Robert Stock and facing the most successful 2021 starting pitcher on the Reds, they are going to need the bats to continue yesterday’s momentum.

Mets Lineup

  1. Brandon Nimmo – CF
  2. Pete Alonso – 1B
  3. Jeff McNeil – 2B
  4. J.D. Davis – 3B
  5. James McCann – C
  6. Michael Conforto – RF
  7. Kevin Pillar – LF
  8. Jonathan Villar – SS
  9. Robert Stock – RHP

Reds Lineup

  1. Jonathan India – 2B
  2. Jesse Winker – LF
  3. Joey Votto – 1B
  4. Aristides Aquino – RF
  5. Tyler Naquin – CF
  6. Eugenio Suarez – 3B
  7. Tucker Barnhart – C
  8. Kyle Farmer – SS
  9. Wade Miley – LHP

Robert Stock has made one start as a Met and the Mets got exactly what they needed from it – he allowed 2 runs from 4 hits and 2 walks over 4.0 innings. Not incredibly deep into the game, but better than his 2021 start against the Mets where he allowed 5 runs over 4.0 innings.

A few Reds have seen him in major league action before:

Wade Miley is having a bounce back season with the Reds this year. Last year he had a 5.65 ERA over 14.1 innings and 6 games. This year in 16 starts and 96.1 innings he has a 2.80 ERA, 3.24 FIP, 1.163 WHIP and 168 ERA+. In July he has pitched 14.2 innings over two games and allowed only 2 runs from 17 hits and 4 walks.

There are only a handful of Mets players who have seen Miley in a major league game:

Mets manager Luis Rojas will be serving the second game of his two game suspension for excessive arguing tonight in Cincinnati, Mets bench coach Dave Jauss will again serve as the manager in his place.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Mets designated right-hander Jerad Eickhoff for assignment for the second time in less than a month to make room for Stock on the roster. Eickhoff allowed seven runs, two of them earned, over 3.2 innings in Monday night’s 15-11 win.

Let’s Go Mets!
