The Mets have a chance at a series split today with the Padres, thanks to Jacob deGrom! The Mets’ ace was great yesterday, holding the Padres to just three hits over seven innings while striking out 11, dropping his ERA to 0.62. Lugo and Diaz came in and shut the door behind him.

Francisco Lindor remained hot with him and Jose Peraza getting the scoring started for the Mets hitting solo homers in the fifth inning. Overall, the Mets collected 13 hits including another two hit day for Lindor and a two hit day for both Kevin Pillar and Jonathan Villar!

Marcus Stroman will close the series out for the Mets. He’s made 11 starts and has thrown 64.1 innings this year with a 2.66 ERA, 3.63 FIP, 1.057 WHIP and a 146 ERA+. He’s coming off of a tough start in Arizona where he allowed three runs from seven hits and no walks over six innings, in a game that included a heated moment between him and Josh Rojas. This is also his first start since the Arizona announcing crew made racist remarks about Stroman. Since then, the Arizona announcer is taking a leave of absence.

The Padres have the following numbers against Stroman:

  • Tommy Pham 1-for-1
  • Victor Caratini 1-for-3, 2B, K
  • Eric Hosmer 5-for-13, BB, 2 K
  • Wil Myers 2-for-10, HR, BB, 5 K
  • Jurickson Profar 2-for-10, 2B, BB
  • Manny Machado 3-for-21, 2B, HR, 5 K

The Mets bats draw Chris Paddack! You might remember him as the starting pitcher who tried to start stuff with Pete Alonso back in April of 2019 when they were both rookies. Over 10 starts and 46.2 innings this year, Paddack has a 4.24 ERA, 4.06 FIP, 1.179 WHIP and a 87 ERA+. He’s coming off of his worst start in the month of May where he allowed five runs from six hits, a walk, and three homers against the Cubs over 4.2 innings. A game that raised his ERA from 3.61 to 4.24. Before that he had a stretch of four games in May where he allowed only three runs in 19.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

  • Billy McKinney 1-for-2, HR
  • Kevin Pillar 1-for-3
  • Jonathan Villar 1-for-2, K
  • Pete Alonso 0-for-4, 2 BB, 2 K
  • Dominic Smith 0-for-2, K
