The Mets made a quick stop in the Bronx last night and backed up deGrom up with five homers! Jacob recorded 12 K’s and a human three runs over 6.2 innings as Rosario, Nimmo, Frazier, Conforto and Bautista all took advantage of the friendly size of Yankee Stadium. Now the Mets will look to keep the good times going as Jason Vargas gets the start in Baltimore, another homer friendly stadium.

Jason Vargas is 2-8 over 12 games and 47.1 innings with a 8.75 ERA, 6.09 FIP, 1.838 WHIP and 43 ERA+. In his last start, a rain soaked and delayed affair, he was marked on the record with three runs and recording one out. One of his few good starts this season was against Baltimore where he allowed two runs over five innings. The Orioles have the following numbers against him:

He is coming off a good start where he held the Rays to one earned run, three total, over seven innings which he needed because in his previous start he allowed 10 runs over 1.2 innings (which raised his season ERA from 4.22 to 5.05). Notes

New York hit a season-high five home runs last night at Yankee Stadium by five different players. The five homers were the most by the Mets since June 6, 2017 at Texas (also five homers) and the most ever against the Yankees. Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto hit back-to-back homers in the fourth-inning, the fourth time this year the Mets have accomplished that feat.

Robert Gsellman has tossed 6.2 scoreless innings dating to Aug. 2 and has allowed two runs over his last 11.1 innings (1.59 ERA) with three saves since the All-Star break. Jerry Blevins has hurled 6.2 scoreless innings and has stranded 26 inherited runners this season, tied for the seventh-most in the majors.

Jay Bruce Is scheduled to play tonight for St. Lucie (A) vs. the Florida Fire Frogs in a minor league rehabilitation game. Bruce has been on the Disabled List since June 18 with a sore right hip.

David Wright went 0-for-1 with a strikeout and a walk in two plate appearances last night for St. Lucie. He played 5.0 innings at third base and had two putouts. Wright is 0-for-4 with a walk in two minor league rehabilitation games. He has a scheduled off day today.
