The Mets go for their sixth win a row and a three-game sweep this afternoon against the Marlins. The Mets secured the series victory against the Marlins yesterday behind a strong start from Carlos Carrasco, a three-hit game from Francisco Lindor, and the return of Seth Lugo who locked things down to preserve the 4-0 score in the 8th and 9th innings.

Mets Lineup

The Mets’ bats will get a familiar foe in Pablo López today. Over 20 starts and 116 innings, Lopez has a 3.03 ERA, 3.63 FIP, 1.043 WHIP and a 135 ERA+. López had a difficult start back on July 21st where he allowed five runs over five innings via five hits and three walks against the Rangers. He bounced back in his last start against the Reds, holding them to only one run on two hits over seven innings while striking out 11.

In López’s first start against the Mets this year he allowed seven runs, six earned, over 5 1/3 innings via eight hits and a walk. In his last start against the Mets on July 8th, he allowed only one run from four hits and a walk over five innings. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:

Marlins Lineup

The Mets will call on Taijuan Walker today to close out the series in Miami. Over 17 games and 97 2/3 innings, Walker has a 2.67 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 1.106 WHIP and a 150 ERA+. Over his last eight starts he has pitched 51 innings with a 2.12 ERA and 2.71 FIP. He had some bumps in his last start against the Yankees in the first inning, allowing back-to-back homers, but he settled in after that and allowed only one more run over five innings of work.

This will be Walker’s fourth start against the Marlins this season. Over 19 2/3 innings this season against the Marlins, he’s allowed four runs from 13 hits and four walks while striking out 21 batters (1.83 ERA). The Marlins have the following numbers against him:

Buck Showalter confirmed that Jacob deGrom will start Tuesday against the Washington Nationals.

Buck Showalter confirmed that today is just a day off for Starling Marte. He is available off the bench and due to be back in the lineup tomorrow.

Prior to the game, deGrom confirmed he still plans to opt out of his contract at season’s end.

The Mets have won five-straight games and have won nine of their last 12. The team’s five game winning streak is the second-longest of the season.

The Mets are a season-high 26 games over .500. It’s the most games over .500 since they were 32 games over with a record of 97-65 to end the 2006 season.
