The New York Mets look to stop their current three-game losing streak to try and get back into the thick of things. The second game of three-game series against the Mariners is takes place on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM at Safeco Field in Seattle.
Jacob deGrom (3-5, 3.18) is handed the ball to stop the slide and looks to win his third straight start, as he matches up against Erasmo Ramirez (1-4, 4.58). This will be his first start in July and looks to win his first game since April 1st.
The lowly 10-game road trip continues. The Mets are currently 1-3 so far, and have lost three straight after winning four in a row. They have won eight out of their last 12 and nine of 14. If they want to mix it back up things are going to have to change.
The Mets are 6-7 in interleague play this season. They are 152-143 all-time, and have lost every game that have played against the Mariners in Seattle.
So where has the offense been? It seemed as though things were turning the corner prior to the break, but three runs in three games is hardly turning the corner. Going back to the series in San Diego, the Mets have only scored five runs in their last 35 innings. The long ball has eluded them as well, as they have not hit one out of the park in five straight games. It is tied with the longest stretch this season (April18-22). Before this happened they hit home runs in eight of nine games.
I know this will probably jinx everything but, Jacob deGrom hasn’t allowed a home run in his last 45.2 innings. He allowed five in his prior 28 innings. In his last five starts, deGrom is 3-1 with an ERA of 1.65 with 10 walks and 38 strikeouts.
DeGrom is in some pretty good company in his first 12 major league starts. He has had four games this season where he has lasted at least seven innings allowing just one run or fewer. Three other Mets pitchers have done that during the span of their first twelev starts. Dwight Gooden who had seven, Bill Pulsipher who had five, and Octavio Dotel who also had five.
The bullpen has held up their end of the bargain, the starting pitching has been pretty decent, so now it is time for the offense to catch up with the rest.

The Mets have not had the best performance on the field since Saturday, and they bring a three game losing streak into tonight’s game. Jacob deGrom gets the start for the Mets, he is 3-5 on the season over 12 games and 73.2 innings of work while posting a 3.18 ERA. In his last two starts he has pitched 14.0 innings allowing only one earned run and striking out 19 batters, he’s been great. As you would imagine, since deGrom is in his rookie year with the Mets, he has not faced the Mariners nor anyone on the Mariners roster before tonight’s game.
Erasmo Ramirez gets the start for the Mariners tonight. In 11 starts for the Mariners this season he holds a 1-4 record with a 4.58 ERA over 53.0 innings. Before being sent down to the minors earlier this season, he was in the middle of the best stretch of starts he made this year spanning 4 starts and 20.0 innings with a 0.90 ERA. The only Mets player he has faced in a major league game is Chris Young who is 1-2 against him.
