Yesterday just was not the day for the Mets. Chris Flexen looked good after the first inning and then everything fell apart as the Mets just got crushed.

So now New York find themselves with an important rubber game. A loss today would push the Mets only one game above .500 and would leave them with a 4-6 road trip.

More important than that, the Mets bullpen needs a breather. Syndergaard has to do a lot today: lead this team and save the pen.

In his last two starts, he has allowed nine runs over 12.0 innings. In two starts against the Cardinals last year, he allowed six runs, five earned over 13.1 innings from 12 hits and two walks while striking out 17. The Mets draw young, Dakota Hudson for the series finale. This season he has pitched in four games, three starts totaling 13.1 innings allowing 10 runs and nine earned from 21 hits and 10 walks posting a 6.08 ERA, 8.24 FIP, 2.325 WHIP, and a 70 ERA+. For Dakota, his first start was a mess, then he was fine for two outings and his last start was a mess, allowing six runs over 3.2 innings. He has never faced the Mets nor has he faced any Mets players while they were with other teams.

Today, the Mets recalled LHP Daniel Zamora from Triple-A Syracuse. After yesterday’s game, the Mets optioned RHP Chris Flexen to Syracuse.

The Mets are 15-21 all-time on Easter…The club is 6-4 in its last 10 Easter match-ups. New York played the Cardinals on Easter last year at Citi Field and lost 5-1.

New York has scored 110 runs through its first 20 games tied for the fourth-most in team history with the 2013 club. The 2007, 1996 and 1986 Mets each scored 116 runs in their first 20 games. The Mets have allowed 127 runs this season, the second-most in team history after 20 games. The 1962 club allowed 132 runs through its first 20 contests.

Michael Conforto has 63 RBI since the 2018 All-Star break, the fourth highest total in the major leagues, behind Christian Yelich (98), Khris Davis (79) and Anthony Rendon (65).

On Tuesday, April 23, Amed Rosario will kick off Rosario’s Kids, which aims to impact the lives of children through sport and mentorship. The boys and girls from the El Puente Leadership Center will enjoy Fan Fest and then head to the field to watch batting practice. Amed will speak to the children in the Mets dugout, take pictures and sign autographs. Each child will receive an exclusive Rosario’s Kids T-shirt, a backpack and tickets for the game.
