The Mets look to bounce back after last night’s typical deGrom start where deGrom went eight innings, allowed only two runs and the only run the Mets scored was the one that deGrom pushed across the plate himself. Poor Jacob, we don’t deserve him. Anyway the Mets will see Kevin Gausman make his Braves debut tonight as we send out the not-traded Zack Wheeler for the first time after the deadline.

Mets Lineup

  1. Brandon Nimmo – RF
  2. Wilmer Flores – 1B
  3. Michael Conforto – LF
  4. Todd Frazier – 3B
  5. Jeff McNeil – 2B
  6. Austin Jackson – CF
  7. Amed Rosario – SS
  8. Kevin Plawecki – C
  9. Zack Wheeler – RHP

Braves Lineup

will be posted as soon as it’s released.

Zack Wheeler is 5-6 over 120.1 innings in 20 starts posting a 4.11 ERA, 3.58 FIP, 1.288 WHIP, and a 93 ERA+. His last start was great as he allowed no runs over six innings and now in his last two starts he has allowed two runs over 13.0 innings. His only start against Atlanta this year was pretty bad as he allowed six runs over 5.2 innings and was probably his last bad start (he’s posted a 2.96 ERA over 51.2 innings and eight games since then). The Braves have the following numbers against him:

  • Freeman 8-for-16, 2 2B, 2 HR, 10 BB (.667 OBP)
  • Flowers 2-for-4, HR
  • Albies 0-for-3
  • Inciarte 2-for-3
  • Makakis 2-for-3
  • Swanson 1-for-3, 2B

For the Orioles this year Gausman pitched 124.0 innings over 21 games with a 4.43 ERA, 4.59 FIP, 1.379 WHIP and 94 ERA+. His last start against the Rays was a positive bounce back allowing 2 runs over seven innings. In his two starts before that he allowed 10 runs over 9.2 innings from 15 hits and four walks. The following Mets have seen Gausman in action:

  • Bautista 6-for-26, 2B, HR, 3 BB
  • Jackson 2-for-10, 2 2B
  • Reyes 4-for-10, 2B
  • Frazier 0-for-5
  • Conforto 0-for-3
  • Flores 1-for-2

Notes

The Mets, along with LGBT Network CEO David Kilmnick, will host Pride Night for the third year in a row tonight. Thousands of fans will wear commemorative Pride Night shirts with a portion of each ticket sale going to support the LGBT Network’s anti-bullying programs in Long Island and New York City schools. The Mets were the first New York team among the four major sports leagues to host a Pride Night when they did so in 2016.

Austin Jackson has gone 5-for-16 (.313) since joining the Mets with a .389 OBP and a .500 slugging percentage (six games).

Bobby Wahl made his Mets debut Thursday, retiring the only two batters he faced. Wahl was acquired from Oakland on July 21 as part of the Jeurys Familia trade. He had 73 strikeouts in 45.0 minor league innings and 292 strikeouts in 221.2 career minor league innings.

Brandon Nimmo is 13th in the NL with a .373 on-base percentage and tied for seventh in the majors with six triples. Nimmo has a career-high 14 homers, but just two in his last 37 games.

Zack Wheeler has won three straight starts for the first time in his career and the Mets are 4-0 in his last four starts. The three-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest of his career. Wheeler won six consecutive decisions from July 6-Aug. 20, 2014.

Let’s Go Mets!
