After the Miami Marlins took the first game of the series on Friday night, the New York Mets will try to rebound on Saturday at Citi Field.

Jonathon Niese (3-5, 4.08) gets the starting assignment for the Mets and will oppose right-hander Tom Koehler (3-3, 3.44 for the Marlins.

Today is New York’s 50th game. Last year the Mets were 22-28 after 50 games and the last time the Mets had 27 or more wins after 50 games was in 2012 (28-22).

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. Ruben Tejada – 3B
  3. Lucas Duda – 1B
  4. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  5. Michael Cuddyer – LF
  6. Wilmer Flores – SS
  7. Juan Lagares – CF
  8. Kevin Plawecki – C
  9. Jonathon Niese – LHP

The Mets offense is odd. They hit two homers last night, but both were solo shots and they scored only 3 runs. It’s so close to actually clicking, but not just yet. Anyway the Mets lost the opener to the Marlins and they hope to rebound this afternoon.

Jon Niese is 3-5 on the season over 9 starts and 53.0 innings with a 4.08 ERA. It has been a struggle for Niese as of late. In his last three starts he has pitched 16.0 innings and has allowed 16 earned runs. So far this year he has completely missed the Marlins. Last year he was 2-0 in 3 starts against the Fish with a 4.26 ERA over 19.0 innings. The Marlins have the following numbers against Jon:

  • Prado 6-32, 4 2B, 3B
  • Stanton 11-27, 2B, 3 HR
  • Baker 8-20, 2B
  • Hechavarria 4-14
  • Solano 5-14, 2 2B
  • Ozuna 4-10, 2B
  • Yelich 4-10, 2B

The Mets bats will try to put it all together against Tom Koehler who is 3-3 over 10 games, 9 starts and 55.0 innings with a 3.44 ERA. In his last 4 games (3 starts) he has pitched 22.0 innings with a 0.82 ERA, so he is really putting it together now. His only start against the Mets this year was a disaster for him as he allowed 7 ER over 3.1 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Tom:

  • Murphy 6-24, HR
  • Duda 2-20, 2B
  • Lagares 5-21, 3B
  • Tejada 5-18, 3 2B
  • Granderson 1-11
  • Recker 0-8
  • Cuddyer 2-6, 2B
  • Flores 1-6, 2B
