The New York Mets (0-1) will host the Miami Marlins (0-1) in their Grapefruit League home opener this afternoon at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie.
LHP Justin Nicolino (5-4, 4.01) gets the start for the Marlins and will oppose. RHP Logan Verrett (1-2, 3.59) for the Mets in the 1:10 PM matinee.
Also expected to pitch for the Mets this afternoon are RHP Buddy Carlyle, RHP Zack Thornton, and LHP Jerry Blevins.
Today’s game marks the first of six with the Marlins this Spring and the first of three at home vs. Miami.
Asdrubal Cabrera and Neil Walker will make their Mets debuts today. Cabrera hit
.265 with 28 doubles, 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 143 games for Tampa Bay in 2015. Walker batted .269 with 16 home runs and 71 RBI in 151 games for Pittsburgh.
The Mets today signed IF Kevin Taylor and RHP Joseph Zanghi to minor league contracts.
