Rafael - Montero

Big game for Rafael Montero who gets another chance today today to make a case for the starting rotation as the New York Mets take on the Miami Marlins. Montero opposes right-hander Dan Haren for the Marlins in a 1:10 PM matchup at Tradition Field (SNY).

Mets Notes

Fred Wilpon addressed Mets players in a closed-door meeting, but wouldn’t take questions from media. No players would divulge what was discussed other than to say it was about winning. I wonder if that means winning at all costs, Fred? The Mets owner has blacked out any and all media requests for an interview since 2013.

Dillon Gee has yet to be told if he’ll start the season in the rotation or bullpen. There are many in the front office who prefer Rafael Montero while Terry Collins practically named Gee the No. 5 starter on March 16. “That’s why we’ve got him. He’ll be the guy.”

Matt Reynolds could be who Mets go with if Daniel Murphy starts season on DL. “I honestly didn’t think I really had a shot at making the team, but my mindset was just coming in here and showing them what I could do, and things would play themselves out,” Reynolds told the NY Post. “I didn’t expect things to happen with injuries with Murphy and everything. I hate to see it happen, but at the same time it’s an opportunity.”
