The Mets will look to rebound on Thursday after a tough loss against the Brewers on Wednesday. It is the final game of the three game set between these two teams. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
Jon Niese (3-3, 2.68) is making his thirteenth start of the season, and is looking to win hist first game since May 22nd. Opposing Niese for the Brewers is Kyle Lohse (7-2, 3.27).
I am a bit nervous to mention Niese’s streak, but he has allowed three earned runs or less in 16 straight starts which is the longest current streak in all of baseball. With luck the Mets will be able to add to their success during Niese’s starts, as they have won six of his last nine.
One thing that has been good for the Mets is their ability to score first. They have done that in 14 out of their last 16 games. Adding to that is another story. New York leads the major leagues with 23 losses by two runs or less. Heartbreaking. It was their 22nd loss this season after holding a lead at any point during the game.
Daniel Murphy is still tied with Paul Goldschmidt for the National League lead in hits. With Murph’s first inning hit in Wednesday night’s game, he now has 23 hits in the first inning all season which leads the National League. David Wright, who has been struggling this month, is tied for second in that category with 19. Another first inning category Murphy is leading is runs scored. So far this season he has scored 12 times in the first inning.
Matt den Dekker recorded his second outfield assist in Wednesday night’s game. It was the 18th for the Mets as a team which is ties them with the Arizona Diamondbacks for second in the majors, two behind Oakland.
Josh Edgin has retired the first batter he has faced in each of his 13 outings. He is also held lefties to a .095 batting average. Vic Black has allowed just one run in 10 innings since being called up from Las Vegas.

The Mets bats just couldn’t get it done last night and the Mets fell to the Brewers 3-1 to put themselves in a rubber game situation tonight. Yesterday deGrom allowed 3 ER over 5.2 innings and the bullpen was able to lock it down afterwards. Tonight, Niese will look to put up another strong pitching performance for the Mets and the bats will look to break out against Kyle Lohse.
