The Mets have yet another doubleheader, which can be a theme for this season. Finding starters for New York has been difficult lately – the Mets have 12 players on the injured list right now that start or have been used as a bulk usage person this season (Jacob deGrom, David Peterson, Carlos Carrasco, Noah Syndergaard, Robert Gsellman, Joey Lucchesi, Corey Oswalt, Sean Reid-Foley, Jordan Yamamoto, Thomas Szapucki, Robert Stock, Stephen Nogosek).

Left-hander Aaron Loup will make his second start of the season for the Mets in Game 2. Loup last served as the opener back on July 18 against the Pirates, and he tossed a pair of scoreless innings while striking out two and allowing two hits.

Loup has been one of the Mets better relievers this season. Over 31.1 innings pitched, he’s posted a 1.44 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, has walked just seven batters, and struck out 37. Hopefully he can put together another clean effort, and then grab himself some brews again!

Right-hander Nick Tropeano was named the 27th man for the doubleheader earlier today, and he’ll likely see a few innings behind Loup in this one.

As a member of the Giants this year, Tropeano allowed two runs (one earned) over six innings from four hits and two walks (four appearances). In one outing with the Mets, he allowed one run from four hits and a walk in two innings. With the Syracuse Mets this year, he has allowed two runs from six hits over 11 innings, scattered over five games.

The Braves will turn to Bryse Wilson for the nightcap. In six starts and 28 2/3 innings Wilson has posted a 5.34 ERA, 5.73 FIP, 1.54 WHIP and a 84 ERA+.

At first glance of his Baseball Reference page, Wilson hasn’t pitched in the majors since June 20th where he allowed five runs from eight hits over four innings. However, there was a doubleheader the Braves played on July 21st against the Padres.

Wilson started that game but it hasn’t ended yet! Wilson will probably be happy for that game to be completely scrubbed from the books – he is on the hook for five runs over two innings from four hits and four walks.

In the minors this year, he has pitched in 10 games, making nine starts and accumulating 55 1/3 innings with a 4.23 ERA. Despite pitching in 21 games over the last four seasons, no one on the Mets have ever seen him in a major league game.

Let’s Go Mets!
