The Mets attempt to bounce back from last night’s close loss as they play two games against the Braves this afternoon and evening in Queens.

Last night, the Mets couldn’t find the big hit with runners in scoring position after faced some missed calls from umpires on their way to a loss. Trevor May, who allowed a big inning to break things open for Atlanta, announced after the game that he didn’t feel right and was going for an MRI. Former Mets catcher Travis d’Arnaud got the big hit and former Mets pitcher Collin McHugh shut things down against the Mets, which added to the story from last night.

In addition to all of that, the Mets found out less than our before game time that Showalter was suspended due to Yoan Lopez throwing at (but not hitting) Kyle Schwarber. (López was suspended three games.) The Mets are now 0-2 this season without Showalter.

Peterson hasn’t started a game in the majors since April 22, and his start at Triple-A Syracuse did not go well (seven earned runs in 4 2/3 innings). Last year against the Braves he allowed nine runs from 13 hits and two walks over 7 2/3 innings.

The Braves have the following career numbers against Peterson:

Game Notes

Discussing his suspension Monday night, Buck Showalter said, “It’s funny, we’re the ones getting hit and we’re the ones getting punished. It’s kind of strange.”

Right-hander Trevor May placed on the 15-day IL with right triceps inflammation. Right-hander Adonis Medina has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.
