New York Mets Spring Training

The Mets traveled to Fort Myers to take on the Red Sox and lost by a score of 4-3 on a passed ball that allowed the winning run to score from third in the ninth.

Pitching

On a day when the Mets could use some good news on the pitching front, they got some from Matt Harvey who got the start against the Boston Red Sox.

In his third start of the spring, Harvey tossed four strong scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out three in a 53 pitch outing. He has now thrown 8.2 innings this spring and allowed just two earned runs for a 2.08 ERA

Noah Syndergaard followed Harvey with a perfect fifth, but surrendered two runs in the next inning. Thor allowed a homer among his three hits and walked one and struck out two. His ERA stands at 4.91 this spring.

Sean Gilmartin was brutal yet again, allowing a run on three hits to blow the save. His ERA balloons to 10.38.

Cory Mazzoni took the loss after loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth. But it was a Kevin Plawecki passed ball that allowed the Red Sox to score and win the game in the ninth.

Offense

A double by Michael Cuddyer followed by an RBI single from John Mayberry Jr and an RBI double by Anthony Recker, gave the Mets an early 2-0 lead in the second.

Curtis Granderson had an RBI single in the third. Cuddyer and Mayberry had two hits each as did Juan Lagares whose average is now up to .340 with a .497 OBP.

Notes

Bobby Parnell is due to pitch in a minor league game on Tuesday, Terry Collins said following the game. Parnell has not pitched in a game since Opening Day of last season and underwent Tommy John surgery last April 8.
