The New York Mets (7-7) fell to the Philadelphia Phillies (7-9) in eleven innings by a score of 5-4. The Mets took two of three from Philadelphia in the series, but were unable to complete the sweep.

Pitching:

Bartolo Colon (1-1, 2.89 ERA) put forth another solid start, but failed to pick up the win to obtain the crown of most wins by a Dominican-born pitcher. Big Sexy allowed three runs, while giving up just four hits on the night. He struck out four, while walking one batter.

Jerry Blevins entered in the seventh and failed to hold up the 4-3 lead that Colon left with. Blevins struck out Freddy Galvis before allowing a double to David Lough. Addison Reed came on to relieve Blevins and struck out Darin Ruf before Peter Bourjos knocked a single to tie up the game with two outs.

Antonio Bastardo did a great job navigating through the eighth and ninth, pitching two scoreless frames. Bastardo allowed just one hit while striking out two in a dominating performance. Jim Henderson entered in the tenth, he pitched a perfect frame while striking out two.

Hansel Robles entered in the eleventh inning and found himself in trouble, allowing a one out double to Freddy Galvis. A wild pitch by Robles allowed Galvis to advance to third and later score the winning run on an infield single by Bourjos.

Offense:

Asdrubal Cabrera just missed his first homer of the season with a shot to right field in the second inning that bounced off the top of the wall for a ground rule double. The double plated Lucas Duda for the Mets’ first run of the game. Neil Walker would come around to score in the same inning on a wild pitch by Jeremy Helickson with Travis d’Arnaud at bat.

The fifth inning saw the continuation of the offense using the long ball to get some runs on the board. Yoenis Cespedes and Lucas Duda hit back to back homers to put the Mets ahead. Cespedes and Duda have ripped the cover off the ball in this series. Getting Duda hot now is going to be huge for this offense if it continues. Lucas has hit a home run in all three games of the series in Philadelphia.

Neil Walker had a nice night at the plate as he went 4-5 with a run scored. All four hits were singles.

Notes:

The Mets wrapped up a series that saw an absolute barrage of dingers from the offense. The team has combined to hit 19 homers in their past six games, which is a franchise best.

The Mets took the series, but were unable to complete the sweep in what was a winnable game. The team needs to find a way to continue to beat up on the weaker teams of the NL East as they did last year. Playing the Phillies and Braves give a great opportunity to fatten up their record with some wins.

On Deck:

The Mets open up a three game set in Atlanta on Friday with a start time of 7:35 PM. The Dark Knight, RHP Matt Harvey (0-3, 5.71 ERA) will try to get his season in order as he takes the mound for the Mets and is opposed by Braves RHP, Bud Norris (1-2, 6.23 ERA).
