The Mets (40-36) were defeated by the Washington Nationals (46-32) by a score of 5-0 tonight at Nationals Park. With the loss, the Mets are now five games behind the Nationals in the standings.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey toed the rubber for the Mets tonight, and tossed 3.2 innings allowing one run on four hits, while walking three and striking out three.

Harvey was removed after the second rain delay, but was slapped with the loss as the Mets bullpen let up four runs and the Mets failed to score – yet again. With the loss, Harvey falls to 4-10 on the season.

Jerry Blevins pitched 1.1 innings, but surrendered a two run shot to Bryce Harper to give the Nats a 3-0 lead.

Hansel Robles pitched two innings, and also allowed two runs, coming on a two run double from Wilson Ramos.

Addison Reed got back on track, pitching a clean eighth with two strikeouts.

Offense:

The best prospect in baseball, Lucas Giolito, debuted for the Nationals tonight, and tossed four innings but was removed after the second rain delay as well.

However, the Nationals bullpen stymied the Mets the rest of the way, as the Mets mustered up a total of five hits and were shutout yet again.

The Mets had their chances to get back in the game, having the bases loaded at one point, but couldn’t even manufacture a single run.

On deck:

The Mets will look to salvage the final game of the series tomorrow night with Logan Verrett (3-4, 4.14 ERA) taking on Max Scherzer (8-5, 3.52 ERA). First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
