The Mets (7-15) were defeated by the Washington Nationals (17-4) by a score of 12-1 today at Tradition Field.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey got the start for the Mets this afternoon, and didn’t fare very well, as he allowed three runs on two hits including a home run.

Noah Syndergaard relieved Harvey in the third and threw three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, as well as allowing a home run and striking out one.

Zack Thornton turned in two innings of his own after coming in to replace Syndergaard, and allowed two runs to increase the Nationals lead to a commanding 7-0.

Hansel Robles pitched the eighth inning, and turned in a scoreless frame, but handed the ball over to Jeurys Familia for the ninth, who allowed five runs in 0.2 innings.

Antonio Bastardo came on to relieve Familia and finished off the inning to stop the bleeding.

Offense:

The Mets, despite having nine hits, were kept off the board until the ninth inning, when Travis Taijeron hit a solo home run to prevent the Mets from being shutout.

It would not even put a dent in the the score as the Nationals would go on to win 12-1.

Taijeron went 2-for-2 today, as well as Yoenis Cespedes who also accumulated two hits.

With this loss, the Mets dropped their final thirteen spring training games.

On deck:

The Mets travel to Cashman Field for a night game against the Cubs tomorrow. Paul Sewald gets the start for the Mets, and is opposed by Ryan Williams. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM.
