The New York Mets dropped their Thursday matinee game against the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 to split the four-game series.

Pitching

Zack Wheeler took the ball for the Mets and was opposed by Chase Anderson. Both starters pitched well in this game.

Wheeler gave up a run in the top of the third on a two-out RBI double by Hernan Perez. In the fourth inning, Wheeler faced his toughest task.

Nick Franklin had a RBI single and the Brewers loaded the bases with one out. Wheeler induced a pop-up which Wilmer Flores tried to make a play on but he was impeded by the bat-boy. Initially it was ruled an out before the umpires conferred and deemed it was not interference so hence, not an out.

An irate Terry Collins got himself ejected but Wheeler ended up inducing a double-play which prevented the Brewers from scoring.

Eric Sogard and Nick Franklin went a combined 4-for-5 against the Wheeler. The rest of the Brewers lineup only managed six hits in the game.

Wheeler was able to pitch into the seventh. It was another good start for a Mets starter. Final line for Wheeler: 6.1 IP, 10 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 K

Jerry Blevins came in with one out in the seventh and and retired both men he faced. On the flip side however, he allowed the first two in the eighth inning to reach. Fernando Salas came in and bailed him out with three strikeouts.

He pitched a scoreless ninth, recorded a season high 5 strikeouts.

Offense

They had a very good scoring chance came in the second inning when the team had first and second with one man out. Wilmer Flores came up and struck out but Travis d’Arnaud had a well struck single to left. Glenn Sherlock aggressively sent Lucas Duda but was thrown out by a mile.

They only had one more hit until the eighth. In the eighth, Wilmer Flores led off the inning with a home run, his fourth.

Neil Walker walked with two outs in the ninth before Corey Knebel struck out Duda to close it out.
